About Tyler Robbins -

Born in 1981 in the town of Iowa Falls, Iowa (on the Iowa River). Transplanted to Wisconsin in 1989. A true corn / cheese fusion, and throw in some pork products while you are at it. Divorced once, and soon to be remarried. I am a family man with a minivan, no compensating. I am currently residing in Sun Prairie, WI.

I am primarily a photographer, and I have deep interests in technical processes. I am as likely to sport a Crown Graphic as I am a DSLR. I am a practitioner of several processes, and like to mix them up when possible in a hybridized digital, wet and alternative process. I like inkjets and I like daguerreotypes.

My primary subject matter explores the wealth of imagery that is directly around me. I have resided in a suburban neighborhood for the past few years and I have been heavily influenced by it. My current work is an exploration of suburban identity and the related material possessions. I came to the suburbs and was not entirely proud of my membership. I became fascinated with the rapid expansion of housing into the rural landscape. After exhausting my desire to document the land around me, I have changed my focus inward.

White, middle-class, suburban Americans are by no means under represented. It is a prime demographic for a majority of mainstream media and consumer products. I am interested in seeing how I fit the stereotypes, and how I don't. What is it that makes the suburban experience unique? Surely there are key activities and beliefs that are shared among the suburban citizenry.

My main focus is to explore what those common threads are. I will use the language and tradition of photography to explore and depict the heart and soul (or lack there of) of the suburbanite.
